New Strategies

We have been using a poker chip positive reinforcement technique for a while now, and while it has worked well, we're ready to move on to something a little more involved. I've been trying to figure out a way that would give the kids a little more control over things like snacks (which somedays they seem to be asking for every two minutes) and screen time (see my comment about snacks). We just introduced this to the kids ten minutes ago. I was not at all surprised about how the kids responded: J instantly traded in twenty of her chips for $2 to be recorded into her kid checkbook, and both boys quickly grabbed twenty chips from each of their jars in order to earn thirty extra minutes each of screen time (playing Wipeout for the Wii). Now that they each have almost used up all the chips they previously had earned, I'll be interested to see how often they are too low on chips to do what they want. Hmmmn...

Ways to Earn Chips

  1. Great list! However, it seems to me that you could end up paying out a LOT of money if all three kids decide to follow the list and then cash in the chips!

  2. LOL, Perky!
With how much the kids love screen time (Wii or TV) and snacks, I don't see the money being a problem. However, I'll update how this is going next month - we'll see.
